Holland & Associates is a Palo Alto based full service accounting firm that is managed and staffed by a team of experienced professionals who are committed to providing their clients with the highest level of professional accounting services available. David P. Holland – CPA/Shareholder

David has over 35 years of public accounting experience and greatly enjoys helping individuals and businesses with their accounting needs. David’s areas of expertise include individual, trust and estate planning and compliance; compensation, stock option and benefit planning; business formation, taxation, and financial reporting. Among the industries he has served extensively are manufacturing, investment advisors, professional service related industries, construction and development, interior design firms, and non-profit organizations. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Utah State School of Accountancy and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Gopal Ghising – CPA/Shareholder

Gopal is a dedicated professional who enjoys helping clients with their tax and accounting needs. He has provided tax and accounting services to a number of high net-worth individuals, various business entities, and non-profit organizations. Gopal holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from San Francisco State University and a Master of Science in Taxation from California State University, East Bay. He is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants. In his free time, he enjoys sports, spending time with family, and cooking.

James Gouthier – Senior Accountant

James Gouthier, a native of Humboldt County, graduated from Humboldt State University in May 1998.  From graduation to his move to the bay area in 2007 he worked for a well-respected accounting firm in Eureka, CA.  He has provided tax and accounting services to individuals, businesses, estates and trusts, and exempt organizations for many years. Clients served in a wide variety of industries including manufacturing, not-for-profit, technology, service providers, real estate professionals, construction, professional services, and government. He has performed many accounting services including entrepreneurial consultation, attest services, financial statement preparation, and court accountings. He has served as treasurer and advisor for local exempt organizations.  His goal is to provide quality services and build client relationships that extend well into the future.  During his personal time, James enjoys spending time with family, backpacking, woodworking, gardening, and cooking.

Charlie Balquist – CPA

After earning his Masters degree from California State University at Hayward, Charlie Balquist began his accounting career with Price Waterhouse in San Jose.  Soon he moved on to some regional CPA firms in the south bay where he worked both as an auditor and as a tax preparer. As an auditor, he has worked with clients in such industries as technology, not-for-profits, waste management, and construction.  As a tax preparer, he has worked with a number of individual and small businesses. On a special temporary assignment, he successfully filed a 10-Q with the SEC for a publicly traded company. Charlie is both a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California State Society of Certified Public Accountants. In his spare time, Charlie enjoys sports, golf, movies, and traveling.

Kimberly Boyle – Accountant

After many years in the insurance industry, Kim’s love of numbers drew her to public accounting over 30 years ago. Kim works in all areas of small business accounting – from recordkeeping to tax compliance and maintaining employee benefits packages. She specializes in customizing computerized accounting solutions for a variety of industries and very much enjoys collaborating with business owners and their employees to develop processes that help manage and evaluate business operations more effectively. Kim’s time away from the office is usually spent traveling – especially to places where she can keep her Spanish in tune.

Hugo A. Terrazas – Staff Accountant

Hugo Terrazas moved to the bay area in July of 2018, shortly after graduating with his Masters of Accounting from New Mexico State University. Prior to his move, and throughout his Masters program, he worked as an accountant for a small, local firm in his hometown of Las Cruces, NM providing tax and accounting services to individuals and small business. In his spare time, Hugo enjoys playing volleyball and exploring all that California has to offer with his wife and two dogs.

Kirshner Joseph – Staff Accountant

Kirshner was born in Miami, Florida, where he initially worked for his father’s tax firm. He moved to San Jose in the summer of 2017 and found himself enamored with the bay area’s unique culture and people. Shortly after arriving, he obtained his licensure as an Enrolled Agent of the IRS and worked primarily at an accounting firm that helped individuals and corporations with complexities arising from tax deficiencies with the state and the IRS. In his free time, he spends time with his son, rooting for his favorite sports teams, reading and continuing his appetite for knowledge in accountancy.

Sheldon Orton – Staff Accountant

After graduating from Brigham Young University with a BA in History and a BS in Accounting, Sheldon began his career at Hood & Strong in San Francisco, and then with Coopers & Lybrand in San Jose, working primarily with high net worth individual and corporate clients. His work history also includes several years at AMD in a supervisory role in the corporate tax department. An Eagle Scout, Sheldon has been a Scoutmaster in two different councils. He enjoys camping with his family, serving in his church, jogging and gardening, as well as coaching youth sports.

Johanna Loera – Administrative Assistant

Johanna was born in Los Angeles, raised in Arizona and now calls Palo Alto home. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Arizona State University and a Masters in Education from the University of San Francisco. She previously worked at a small, local accounting firm in Arizona and is now enjoying the opportunity to expand her tax knowledge at Holland & Associates. In her free time, she enjoys running, doing CrossFit and building up the neighboring communities.

Kaycie Edeh – Chief Operations Manager

Kaycie is an operations focused professional with a client centered, relational approach to her work. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Management, from Sacramento State University in 2008, worked for 7 years, focusing on organizational transition at various private and public sector businesses, and found her niche with accounting firms. Kaycie has traveled extensively in Africa, focusing on cross-cultural communication and relationship management. She brings organizational detail and big picture vision to firm operations, planning, internal processes, and client experience.
